Bruce McClendon, Senior Associate Emeritus
Mr. McClendon was the Planning Director for Los Angeles County from 2006 to 2009. Previous to that, he served at the director level in Orange and Hillsborough Counties in Florida. Additionally, he has served as the director of planning for the Texas Cities of Galveston, Beaumont, Arlington, and Forth Worth. Mr. McClendon has a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in regional and city planning from the University of Oklahoma, with an emphasis on economic development. He has been elected and served for two terms as the national president of the American Planning Association and is a charter member and fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners. Mr. McClendon is an accomplished author, with over 100 articles in over 50 different publications. His book Customer Service in Local Government is the definitive source on the subject. Mr. McClendon worked with Citygate on a number of community development consulting engagements, including Sacramento County and San Diego County, as well as jointly presenting “Performance Auditing of Community Development Departments” at an APA conference. Mr. McClendon passed away in January 2017.
