Selecting leadership training for an organization is much like buying a car. First you pick the make and model and then select the options. Rarely does one take the time to inspect the frame of the car, the actual foundation that will protect your life when disaster strikes. Selecting leadership training is not so dissimilar. Deciding on the “options” in leadership training has become a daunting task as illustrated by current leading theories such as Social and Emotional Intelligence, Dysfunctioning Teams, Credibility, Raving Fans,  Viral Change, Encouraging the Heart, Transitional

and Change Leadership and on and on.  While each of these “options” reveals useful information, close inspection reveals that the frame has not been properly prepared and that disaster is just an encounter away. These “options” of leadership training can be successfully utilized only when a strong leadership foundation is firmly in place.

Leadership is Relationship

Leadership is fundamentally a relationship between people and therefore falls under the relationship principles that we learn throughout our lives. These principles exist and are as real as the laws of nature; and until they are acknowledged, respected, and followed, any optional leadership training undertaken will be less effective. It follows that to become a better leader we need to learn how to establish and develop proper relationships based on trust. Leadership springs from within. It’s about who we are as much as what we do. Citygate believes that leadership is not an act, rather a way of living. Citygate’s leadership training is about developing leaders of character equipped with the skills and knowledge to develop organizational values and drive workplace excellence.

Leadership Training

Ambrose Bierce once said “There’s nothing new under the sun, but there are lots of old things we don’t know."  Ambrose certainly must have been speaking about leadership training. Citygate believes leadership training should first build leaders' self-awareness concerning strengths and stumbling blocks and then progress to understanding others' strengths and weaknesses. Citygate believes this process is a fundamental and necessary first step to effective leadership training. Once this foundation is in place, other leadership training options can be undertaken with far more effective results.  Citygate’s Leadership Academy was established to provide this training sequence.
